J.B. Spates, Jr. entered into rest on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Mr. Spates was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra J. Barnes; mother, Sharon M. Spates; maternal grandparents, Herbert and Doris L. Simmons; and paternal grandparents, Ben D. and Minnie A. Spates. Mr. Spates is loved and missed by those who survived him beginning with his loving wife, Joyce E. Spates, children, Michelle R. McDonald (Michael W. McDonald); J.B. Spates, III; grandchildren, Briar A. Rose (Kylie R. Rose), Christopher M. Rose, Trenton M. McDonald, and Jonathan B. Spates, IV; great grandchild, Malena M. Rose; father, J.B. Spates, Sr.; siblings; sister, Alvira A. “Toady” Moore (Bobby R. Moore, Sr.), sister, Sharon M. Hill (James P. Hill), brother, Benjamin Spates (Lillie L. Spates); nieces and nephews, Bobby R. Moore (Suzanne Moore), James P.T. Hill, II, Mary A. Hill, Callie E. Spates, Brittany L. Berdeaux (Quinton Berdeaux), and Ben Spates, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. for a visitation at the funeral home chapel. It was Mr. Spates’s wish to be cremated. Services and care under the direction of Camero Funeral Home at City Base.
