Gloria M. Vela's Obituary
Gloria M. Vela, born on December 13, 1947, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 72 years old. Gloria was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents Gonzalo C. Vela and Consuelo Montemayor Vela, brothers; Gonzalo Vela, Jr. and Steve T. Vela. Ms. Vela is survived by her brothers and sister-in-law; David Vela and Priscilla, and Oscar Vela, Sr., sisters and brothers-in-law; Aurora Guerra and Johnny, Maria Elena De La Garza, Lilia Balle and Ruben, and Angie Peñalver and Chris; also numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends. Ms. Vela was a caring, strong, and kind-hearted woman. She was generous with her time and loved helping others. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Ms. Vela was a Federal Courtroom Deputy where she worked until she retired with over 25 years of dedication and service. She worked in Judge Fred Biery’s Courtroom, who stated, “Gloria was the glue that held our Court together.” During her years of service, she developed close relationships with her colleagues who include; Gilbert Rodriguez, Gloria Christmas, Chris Poage, Judge Fred Shannon, Fred Soele and, Judge Fred Biery. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Due to these unprecedented times, traditional funeral services will not be held.
