Yolanda Martinez Tapia's Obituary
Yolanda Martinez Zapata Tapia, Beloved mother and friend, passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord, and entered Heaven on April 23, 2020.
Yolie is survived by her only daughter, Erica Jo Tapia; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Carrie Martinez; brother, Dr. Jesse T. Zapata; nephews, nieces, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, Gumecindo G. Zapata, Dolores T. Zapata, and Margarita Zapata Ramirez.
Yolie was of Native American Apache and Hispanic heritage, and a devout Catholic. She was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, where she resided until her passing. She was a true San Antonian who loved this city she called home.
Yolie had many great achievements, and was very proud to have accomplished so much in her life. Her family and friends were equally proud to have shared those moments with her.
In 1970, Yolie, graduated from Luther Burbank High School. Prior to graduating high school, Yolie began working at the Federal Reserve Bank in San Antonio.She wore many hats, held many titles, and worked in different departments over the years. Most prominent of them, she was an analyst and trainer until her retirement in 2004.
Yolie loved her work, and she excelled at it. She had one of the brightest analytical minds, making her reputation well-known within the company. She also loved her "work family." Many of whom she maintained relationships with long after retirement. She was a member of the 25 Year Club, and spent 34 wonderful years with the Federal Reserve Bank in San Antonio.
After retiring, Yolie returned to college and completed her education. She graduated from TX A&M University Kingsville at San Antonio with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She then went on to Graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Master's degree in Counseling.
Yolie was fun, funny, witty, and sharp. She was strong and independent. She was extremely intelligent and saavy. She was conservative and impeccable. She was generous and charitable. She loved traveling and playing the piano. She loved watching movies and her game shows.
Above all else, Yolie was devoted. Devoted to her family, her work, her career, her education, and most importantly, to her daughter, Erica. She was a beacon of guiding light and a force to be reckoned with. Those who knew her, knew her well. She will forever be in our hearts. She will forever be loved. She will forever be missed. Rest in peace my beautiful mother.
