Socorro (Cora) Galvan Alvarado
May 24,1934~September 10, 2014 Cora was brought into this world by our Heavenly Lord, and mother, Luz Vasquez Galvan and father, Jose Galvan. Devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt, She will be remembered for her love of family, friends, music, and dancing. She served as an active parishioner and chorister of St. Joseph South San Catholic Church for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Fox Tech High School, class of 1954, a retired civil service employee with the U.S. Air Force for 46 years and an active member of the Wesley Community Center and several line dancing groups. She will also be remembered for her passion in supporting beautification actions in her neighborhood. She was called to join her mother, father, her beloved husband of 57 years Erasmo G. Alvarado, her parents-in-law, Maria and Roman Alvarado, brother, Hector V. Galvan and dear loving friend, Esperanza (Hopie) Garcia-Duran. Socorro leaves behind her dearly beloved children, Dr. Jose G. Alvarado, Xavier F. Alvarado (Tommie), Edward G. Alvarado (Carmen), Lucinda M. Sutton (John). Grandchildren: Brian, Lauren, Edward Jr., Mark, Matthew, and Jamie Alvarado, James and Russell Sutton. Cora will always be held dear in the hearts of her siblings, Teresa (+Jose) Salazar, Frances (Alonzo L.) Guerra Jr., Juan Galvan, and sister-in-law, Rosemary Galvan also, numerous relatives and friends. Family and friends will be received for viewing at 7 pm and Holy Rosary at 8 pm on Monday, September 15, 2014, at St. Joseph South San Catholic Church, 535 New Laredo Hwy. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at First Memorial Park Cemetery, 20567 Hwy 16 South. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Cora’s Catholic family to St Joseph’s Catholic Church Building Fund and its Choir.
