Simona R. Hernandez's Obituary
Our dear mother, Simona R. Hernandez “Mona”, passed away on June 11, 2023, at the age of 71. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Terri C. Guerra, her parents, Israel Ramirez and Lydia B. Camero, her brothers Paul B. Ramirez and Israel Ramirez Jr. She is survived by her daughter Jo Anne Hernandez-Perez (Joseph), her son Jose E. Hernandez, Jr. (Deanna), her fiance Alejandro Martinez, her sister Mary Lou Perez (Javier), thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and eight grand-fur babies.
Mona was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. She attended Burbank High School and received a certification from CBM technical school. She retired from Centro Med after 20 years of service as an office manager. She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting the beach, playing bingo, traveling to casinos, dancing, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was well known for her menudo and cornbread stuffing recipes.
Mona lived a simple life that revolved around her children and grandchildren. Several years ago, she was coined the nickname “Yaya” by her granddaughter Liliana. Many people referred to her as such and she lit up every time someone called her by that name. She was a gracious person and anyone who met her instantly felt welcomed and loved in her presence. She taught her children and grandchildren to love unconditionally, to be there for one another, to forgive others, to make sacrifices when necessary, to follow their dreams, and to never give up. Mona was a true fighter, and she lived each day to the fullest. She was loved by many, and she will be truly missed by those who had the pleasure of meeting her.
The family would like to thank Trinity Hospice for the ongoing care and support provided to her and her family at the end of her life.
Services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 @ Camero Funeral Home & First Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with funeral and gravesite services to follow. If you plan to attend her services, the family kindly ask you to wear pink in her honor.
Fly High Yaya… until we meet again!
