San Juana Garcia Soto, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully May 28 in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by family. She was born on January 5, 1937, in El Blanco, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and lived a life marked by unwavering love, quiet strength, and deep sacrifice.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eusebio Gomez Gomez, and by her children Santiago, Leonardo, and Jose Erasmo. She also mourned the passing of her siblings Juan and Thomas, and her precious grandchildren Juan “Coco” and Andrew.
A pillar of strength and grace, San Juana was the matriarch of a large and deeply bonded family. She is survived by her children Augustine, Roberto, Enriqueta, Isidoro, Tomasa, Maria de Jesus, Raquel, Alicia, Ernesto, Juana Maria, and Jose Manuel. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren: Olivia, Juanita, Manuel, Cindy, Roberto Jr., Heather, Veronica, Daniel, Juanita Isabel, Leonardo, Stephanie, Isaac, Sara, Rafael, Kelly Ann, Benjamin, Patricia, Narda, Leonardo Adrian, Esteban, Keila, Edrei, Mauricio, Emilio, Ian, Manuel Alejandro, and Victor Manuel.
She leaves behind a growing generation of great-grandchildren — Liliana, Aleina, Natalia, Ava, Alyssa, Lexi, Ceasar Jr., Juliana, Lilliana Alex, Derek, Leonardo Jr., Giovani, Gabriel III, Brandon, Julianna, Aiden, Isaac Jr., Thomas, Kataleya, Ryan, and Karli — and two great-great-grandchildren Misael Jr and Samuel Andres, each a living testimony to her legacy of love.
San Juana’s life was defined by selfless devotion. A full-time mother, she raised her children with resilience, and boundless compassion. Her home was always open her kitchen was a place of comfort, her presence, a source of peace and wisdom. She offered discipline when needed, comfort when it mattered, and an unfailing loyalty to the family she helped shape and sustain - a refuge not only for her own children and grandchildren but for anyone she welcomed into her heart and considered family. The impact of her life is etched deeply in the hearts of all who knew her.
Though she held no formal title outside the home, her life’s work was the shaping of generations through her nurturing presence, wise counsel, and steadfast faith. She instilled values of hard work, humility, and loyalty — qualities that continue to bear fruit through her descendants.
San Juana is also remembered fondly by her surviving siblings Delfina, Gabriella, Maria de Jesus, Roberto, and Pauline. Her memory will be honored not only by those who knew her personally, but by all whose lives are richer because of her love.
Her life was long, her love was deep, and her absence will be deeply felt. Yet in our grief, we rest in the blessed hope of reunion in the presence of the Lord.
