Ruben Moreno's Obituary
Ruben Villanueva Moreno Sr. knocked on Heaven’s door and the Lord received him with open arms. He was born and raised on the south side of San Antonio, TX. to Rosalinda Guerra and the late Asincian Moreno. He is survived by his wife, Monica Moreno of 32 years and his children: Ruben II “Snapper”, Christopher, “Wero” (Erika-spouse), and Clarissa “Mama Nee-nee” (Dan-fiancé), grandsons: Peter, “Patito” and Mateo, “Bam-Bam” siblings: David “Boo-Boo” Moreno, (Yvonne-spouse), Gilbert Moreno (Christine-spouse), Rebecca Moreno-Barocio (Jimmy-spouse), Johnathan Guerra, numerous nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. As a proud Dragon graduate of Southwest High School, class of 1988, his incredible love for football helped him achieve several goals: He played on the SW Dragons varsity football team beginning his sophomore year. During this time, he and his SW Dragon brotherhood went on to victory winning an undefeated Bi-District championship title in 1985. He was the Center and Middle Line Backer nicknamed “Iron-Man Moreno” due to his strength and high endurance. He won several football awards throughout his high school years with the most significant one being the MVP. At a young age he won several swim meets, played football and baseball taking home countless awards. He was very passionate in everything he held dear, he believed in giving your best effort and nothing less. He could have lived in the San Marcos River. There was nothing he enjoyed more than getting there before sunup, jumping in the freezing waters and “kicking back” or taking a nice stroll through the park. Loving driving around Downtown San Antonio, or just driving around everywhere near or far, riding his bike, fishing, playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his “wolfpack.” Watching sports was almost his religion as his weekends were mostly consumed by the joys of watching football games blaring throughout the house. His never miss games were always his beloved Cowboys-he was, Dem boys. Although he may have not been able to reap the benefits of being a lifelong Rangers fan, he was in the outfield keeping the pride in his Texas heart. He kept his love for basketball through his joy of being a Spurs fan. He took heavy pride in everything Texas; almost seemed personal to see his teams lose. Through the many life lessons bestowed upon many who crossed his path, his impact on this world will reign true for many generations to come. He had countless memories and stories from working on the railroad throughout the U.S. and later working in the oilfield. He loved being able to fix and make things the way they should be done, his home, was a prime example of his many God given gifts he used when gutted out almost every room and then remodeled it. This home is where he and Monica built a life together and raised their children all in the process of the reconstruction. It was the gathering place for everyone. Absolutely nothing was too difficult for him; he was a master of ALL trades. We will miss his straightforward, bold, assertive counseling sessions, the quick comebacks, always needing to say the last word, planting an inappropriate joke at the worst time, and making us laugh so hard we’d cry, there was never a dull moment…We love you forever.
