Richard James Eldridge, Sr.'s Obituary
Richard James Eldridge, Sr. was born October 21, 1940 in Yorktown, Texas to Richard Eldridge and Willie Mae Green.
There he grew up, graduated from high school and worked a while before deciding to join the Marine Corps. While in the 3D Marine Division, Richard served his Country honorably, earning a Purple Heart during the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged from the Marines and joined the US Army as a 1st Calvary Division infantryman in 1969. Richard was stationed at many Stateside posts as well as overseas in Korea, Germany and Panama.
Upon retiring from the Army in 1982, Richard attended Our Lady of The Lake University and worked in logistics at Kelly Air Force base until finding fulfillment working in medical supply at Brooke Army Medical Center here in San Antonio. When not working, Richard enjoyed spending his free time playing Pinochle, Spades, dominos with friends and family. He also enjoyed bowling on league, especially at Ft. Sam Houston. Richard had many grandchildren and loved them all, but his granddaughter Ofelia Franks was his pride and joy.
Richard quietly passed away in his sleep at home on the morning of Saturday, May 20, 2017, following a brief illness.
Mr. Eldridge is survived his wife, Marilyn Adams-Eldridge, his daughter Dietchie Eldridge Franks and her husband Thomas James Franks, both of San Antonio, many grandchildren including Ofelia, Veronique, Breona, Brittany, Micheal, Christopher and Zahara, two brothers Booker T. Cross, Jr., Booker Jessie Cross, one sister Effie Williams, and other cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Richard was preceded in death by his son Richard James Eldridge, Jr., his grandson Isaiah Butler, his father Richard Eldridge, stepfather Booker T. Cross, Sr., and his mother Willie Mae Green.
Services will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 at Camero Funeral Home with the viewing from 9-12 and funeral at 1 P.M. Mr. Eldridge will be interred at First Memorial Cemetery in Von Ormy.
