Rebecca Louise Wilkerson's Obituary
On Saturday, April 25th, 2026, Rebecca Louise Wilkerson peacefully left this Earth with her daughters by her side, holding her hands. Born on June 9th, 1950, she passed from a brief illness at the age of 75.
Known to many as Beckie “with an ie” as she liked to remind everyone, Aunt Beckie, Mom, but most importantly Grandma. Her grandkids and great-grandkids were the highlight of her life.
She started her career at Somerset ISD where she was a substitute, Special Education aide, Band director’s aide, Colorguard sponsor, and ending up at the “White House” as an administrative assistant to her dear friend Pricelda Landry. She then went to work at Natalia ISD as an administrative assistant for the Special Education department before retiring so she and Bubba, her husband of 36 years, could travel to the casinos. After his passing in 2006, she took up her quilting again.
She was a member of Quilts of Honor where she made hundreds of quilts for deserving veterans. She loved being able to present these quilts to so many.
She was also a big part of the Quilted Hearts charity quilting group in Atascosa County. She again made hundreds of quilts, phone pouches, and walker and wheelchair bags for people in need. Some of these quilts and items are still being used in local nursing homes, local police and fire departments, and CASA. She found great satisfaction knowing her time and effort brought peace and comfort to so many through her quilts. But most of all, her biggest enjoyment through quilting was the ones she made for her family.
Beckie had a kind, gentle, and loving soul. She would do anything for anyone. She left this world ready and loving Jesus because she longed to be with those who went before her, especially her granddaughter Madison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Wilkerson, Jr., granddaughter, Madison Ann Curbow. Parents, Louis and Marie Janecek, and sisters, Gail Blankenship and Sharon Edwards.
She is survived by daughters Cindy (Allen) Payne and Melissa (Shane) Curbow. Her grandchildren Rehgan (Elizabeth) Payne, Ross (Laci) Payne, and Mackinzy (Jaret) Statler. Great-grandchildren: Kylee Sewell, Parker & Creed Payne. She is also survived by her sisters Nancy Krawietz and Deborah Reeves, as well as her longtime quilting friend Joyce Price.
Though we are sad she is no longer in this world, we rejoice knowing she is walking beside her loved ones in Heaven - no more pain; no more sorrow. Services will be held at Camaro Funeral Home on Hwy 16 south on Thursday, April 30th at 10 am.
