Maricella S. Garcia's Obituary
Maricella Solis Garcia was born October 7, 1958 and passed away, after a short battle with cancer, January 6, 2023 surrounded by her family. Maricella was preceded in death by her parents David and Elidia Solis. She is survived by her husband, Michael Garcia; sons, William Adam Torres (Roxanne), Nicolas Patrick Torres, and Andrew Anthony Garcia (Michelle); and grandchildren, Zachry, Elena, Ezra, Nicolas, and Dominic. She is also survived by her sisters, Hortence Hidalgo, Melba Faz; brothers, David Solis (Elvira), Franc Solis (Gerry); father-in-law, Manuel Garcia; mother-in-law, Ofelia G. Garcia; sister-in-law, Yolanda Thompson (Ed); brother-in-law, Manuel Edward Garcia, Jr.
Maricella was a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy, and the San Antonio College Mortuary Science Program. She worked in the funeral service industry in San Antonio for over 40 years as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. She began her professional career as the General Manager of the Trevino Funeral Homes, she then went to work at Castillo Mission Funeral Home as the Office Manager, and in 2004, she and her husband Michael began working with Jerome Camero to establish the Camero Funeral Home in Von Ormy, Texas.
With Mari as the General Manager, and Michael as the Director of Pre-need Sales they set out to serve the families of Von Ormy, Poteet, Pleasanton, Somerset, San Antonio, and the surrounding area through caring funeral service. This year Mari would have completed 20 years of service with Camero Funeral Home. For over her 40 years Mari provided mentorship to many students and graduates of the Mortuary Science Program at San Antonio College where she served on the Advisory Board.
Mari was a woman of great faith, and a devoted member of St. Peter the Fisherman, Catholic Church in Von Ormy, Texas where she served as Chair of the Parish Council, Chair of the Festival Committee, a Eucharistic Minister, and taught CCD. Recently, Mari and Michael were informed, by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, that they have been awarded the Lumen Gentium award. This award is given to lay persons in each parish who have demonstrated faithfulness and dedication in ministry. Mari and Michael were to receive their award on February 2, 2023.
Maricella was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will long be remembered for her smile, laughter, humor, and the ability to always see the good in everyone.
Funeral Services for Maricella Solis Garcia will be held at Camero Funeral Home on Saturday, January 14, 2023. The family will receive friends on Saturday, beginnng at 10:00 a.m. A Rosary will be celebrated by Deacon Larry Contreras Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be co-celebrated by Fr. Jim Katera and Fr. Albert Lelo Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Inichement will take place in Camero Cemetery following the funeral service.
