John Thomas Hawkins, Sr.'s Obituary
John Thomas Hawkins, Sr. born in Bessemer, Alabama, on August 18, 1936 passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the age of 79 years. Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve R. Hawkins; sons, John Hawkins, Jr. (Kelly) and Terry Hawkins (Donna Lynn); daughters, Donna Louise Fitzgerald (Ken), Geraldine Collier (Raymond), and Gayle M. Sclerandi; sisters, Emolyn Floyd and Louise Farr; also 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other relatives and his loving pets, Peaches, Snoball, J.J., Teddy, Whitey, and Baby. Mr. Hawkins retired from the United States Air Force as a Flight Engineer. He was a big fan of the Crimson Tide Team of Alabama, the Dallas Cowboys, and the San Antonio Spurs. Mr. Hawkins had a great joy of playing bingo and enjoyed the game of golf and followed the PGA Tour as well. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 6970. Visitation will begin on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church, 17534 N. State Hwy. 16, Von Ormy. A Rosary Service will be held on Sunday Evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Church. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church. Serving Mr. Hawkins as Pallbearers will be Kelley Barfield, John Barfield, Paul Barrera, Dr. Shawn Gilmore, Michael Rivera, and Steve Sanchez. Everyone is to meet at Church. Burial will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the pet shelter of your choice. Arrangements under the direction of Camero Funeral Home.
