Gloria Lopez Menchaca's Obituary
Gloria Menchaca, 61, of San Antonio TX, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021, surrounded by loved ones in her home, after a difficult battle with cancer.
Gloria was born on July 12th, 1959 to Fidel Lopez, a musician and trucking company worker, and Rosa Lopez, a farm field worker, in the small town of Leakey TX. She lived in Uvalde and settled down in San Antonio by Guadalupe street and on Wainwright street. She finally planted roots on Ike street where her late husband Roger G. Menchaca built a home in a wooded developing neighborhood for their growing family. She earned a living at the Miller Curtain Co. on Zarzamora street at the Levi Strauss Plant where she worked as a seamstress making Levi’s clothing until 1990. She later received her certification to become a CNA health care provider.
Gloria Lopez and Roger G. Menchaca were married and raised 6 kids together, Amy Lopez, Michael Pena, Jessica Lopez, Roger Jr. Menchaca, Adela Menchaca, and the youngest Katherine Menchaca.
Gloria was passionate about dancing, karaoke singing, fashion, fun gatherings, and her Faith in God. She was a social butterfly who could quickly whip up a last-minute celebration or birthday party for family and friends to gather at any given moment. In her later years, she enjoyed volunteering at the VFW trading post where she had many veteran friends. Each year she looked forward to Spring-time when she enjoyed watching her red and pink roses bloom as well as watch the birds scavenge for seeds in her yard. She also looked forward to dressing up in colorful outfits and partaking in the annual downtown Fiesta events with family and friends. She is survived by her children and siblings, Connie Lopez, Julian Lopez, Josie Lopez, Filomeno Castoreno, Felipe Castoreno, Francis Leal and Moses Leal. She is also survived by her common law husband, Eladio Alvarado, who loved her and took care of her over recent years.
