Gilbert Barrera Andrade's Obituary
Gilbert Barrera Andrade went to rest with the Lord on Saturday June 27, 2020 at the age of 85 years. Gilbert was born to Guillermo Andrade and Florencia Andrade-Barrera on September 30, 1934. Mr. Andrade was predeceased by his wife Josephina Andrade, his daughter Leticia Andrade, his two sisters Placida (Chata) Gonzalez and Josephina (Chepa) Hernandez, and parents.
Gilbert was the second oldest of five siblings growing up in the small town of Somerset, Texas. As a young adult, Gilbert joined the United States Army as an auto mechanic and was stationed at various military bases including overseas in Germany. After completing his enlistment he was honorably discharged and made his home in San Antonio, Texas. As a self-taught individual he was very successful in life. He was a master of many trades but his passion was definitely in carpentry and was given the name of “Maestro” for his skills and beautiful workmanship by friends, co-workers, and boss. In his career as a carpenter he created many homes, businesses, churches, and monuments that we can still see here in San Antonio today. He was very well known for his hard work, artistry and expertise throughout Texas.
He will be survived by Sylvia Fischer- children Jens Fischer, Denise and spouse Patrick Jung; Velma A. Andrade- Children Jack Warren III and spouse Elizabeth, Sheila and spouse Isaac Dimas, Carlos A. Saldana; Clara Paez-Andrade and spouse Robert Flores- children Daniel, Alan, April with spouse Adam Perez; Rachel Andrade children- Marcella, Leonardo; Gilbert Andrade Jr. and spouse Rebecca Ojeda- children Alexandra, Katie, Zoey; Frank Andrade and spouse Viviana Andrade- children Jaylin, Gianna, Frank; children of Leticia Andrade- Bernadette Alvarado and spouse Edward Coronado, Breanna, Bethany; siblings Mary-Helen and spouse John W. Ross, Alfredo Cuellar and spouse Mary Cuellar. Gilbert was a proud and loving grandfather of 20 grandchildren – Jens Fischer, Denise Jung, Jack Warren III, Sheila Dimas, Carlos Saldana, Daniel Tavitas, Alan Tavitas, April Perez, Bernadette Alvarado, Breanna Alvarado, Bethany Alvarado, Marcella Zapata, Leonardo Andrade, Alexandra Huron, Katelynne Alejandro, Madelynne Quiroz, Zoey Ojeda-Andrade, Jaylin Estrada, Gianna Andrade, Frank Andrade; and a great-grandfather to 13 great grandchildren – Felecitas Jung, Florentine Jung, Jack Warren IV, Giavanna Warren, Isaiah Sivak, Dezmyn Dimas, Daryan Dimas, Donavyn Dimas, Hazel Sosa, Genesis Perez, Rayden Perez, Camilla Alejandro, and Amaziah Coronado.
Gilbert will be laid to rest along side his wife Josephine with Military Honors.
Burial service will be held on Friday July 10, 2020 @ 10am at First Memorial Park Cemetery located on at 20567 Tx- Highway 16, Von Ormy TX 78073.
