Our mother was born and raised in Campbellton she would always say. Born to Juan & Maria Contreras, out of 11 children she was the 4th in line. 2nd of the girls. Well known for her generosity, kindness, giving heart, and hard work ethic. She started school late because of working from a very young age in the cotton fields to help her family. She would get up early in the morning to help her mother make tortillas, and potato & egg tacos, to feed all that would be working in the fields that day. She worked many jobs, even helped her mother take in other people's clothes, to wash, iron, and fold. She was happy to be able to help her mother with anything and everything, from buying their first TV, sewing machine, water cooler, and order her little twin sisters dresses from a mail catalog, and so much more. Momma also loved to dance and was a very good dancer. She took the time to show her younger brother Leon how to dance and showed him many other things that would be useful to him throughout the years, like cooking would be one of them. He describes her as the only one from his sister's caring enough to do so. Our mother was very quick to pay her bills and had a lifetime of good credit because she learned from her father to always pay her bills on time and pay them first. Our mother was always preparing really good home cooked meals, with homemade tortillas, and a molcajete full of chile. Every one of us would agree were the best tasting meals, a trait she was proud to say she learned from her mother. Momma never said "no" to anyone, if you needed a favor or asked for something, her answer was "yes". She was a very strong lady, a fighter, and resilient till the end. Momma was unique, special, and one of a kind. Momma was so loved by many and is already missed by many.
