Elvira Garcia Sanchez's Obituary
Elvira Garcia Sanchez, beloved Sanchez family matriarch, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024, at the age of 89. Elvira was born on August 22, 1935, in Charlotte, Texas to
Redusindo Garcia and Asuncion Gonzalez.
She married Manuel B. Sanchez on August 30, 1948, and they shared 54 happy, golden years together. Her world centered around her family. Over the years, they hosted family gatherings at their house, bringing together many generations over the holidays.
Once her daughters were all in school, she started working in the school cafeteria. She worked in various school cafeterias over the span of about 35 years, all within Southside ISD. She took great pride in her kitchens and her work, which carried over to her kitchen at home. Her grandchildren’s fondest memories are of the wonderful meals she always cooked from scratch for them each time they visited. Even in her final days, she was “cooking”, asking her daughters to make sure her food wasn’t burning.
While her time here on Earth is over, her daughters find peace that she is reunited (and dancing cheek-to-cheek) with her beloved husband, Manuel. She is also preceded in death by sons-in-law: Antonio Martinez, Roberto Ortiz, and Robert Kindla, as well as siblings: Santos Garcia, Estella Estrada, Eloise Charles, Ricardo “Cale” Garcia, Pete Garcia, Adolfo “Fito” Garcia, and Arturo “Archie” Garcia.
Left here on Earth to cherish her memory are her four daughters: Ruth Arocha, Ruby Martinez, Mary Linda Ortiz, and Betty Kindla. Grandchildren: Fidencio “Bubba” Arocha (Annie), Maxine Gonzalez (Alfred), Christine Garcia (Victor), Monica Ortiz, Sandra Febus (Carlos), Robert “JR” Ortiz, Amanda Martinez, Tracy Kindla (Denise), Jason Kindla, 17 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, as well as siblings: Herminia “Nena” Witherspoon, Emma Garcia, Josephine “Josie” Cruz, and Roy Garcia.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lupe Resendiz and Valerie Gonzales for their care and compassion during her final months.
Visitation will be at 5:00 PM till 9:00PM with a Rosary to be recited, Thursday, October 24th at 7PM at Trevino Funeral Home – Palo Alto. Mass will be held Friday, October 25th at 11AM at St. Francis Cabrini Church with Interment to follow at First Memorial Park Cemetery.
We will miss you Little Grandma, but your spirit and strength live on in each of us.
