Domingo "Mingo" Hidalgo's Obituary
Domingo “Mingo” Hidalgo, a harbinger of smiles, friend to many, and family to all,
passed away on May 15, 2024, in his home of residence outside of San Antonio, Texas. Born
March 13, 1940, to the late Jose Hidalgo and Nicolasa Blanco, Domingo’s life was stamped by
diligence, family, and the warmth of his engaging personality.
Domingo was born in Juarez, Coahuila, Mexico but was raised in Sabinas, Coahuila,
Mexico alongside his 10 siblings. In 1967, he married his lifelong love, Natalia Blanco, and
together they built a life rich in love and laughter. Their marriage was blessed with seven
children: Norma (Jose) Tristan, Irene Hidalgo, Mariela (Roberto) Perez, Nicole (Nora) Saenz,
Sonia (Johnny) Gonzalez, Domingo Hidalgo Jr., and Maira Hidalgo, who in turn filled Domingo’s
life with the joy of 17 grandchildren: Joe, Michael, David, Robert, Daniel, Raul, Dominique,
Natalie, Darian, Julian, Martin, Johnathan, Abraham, Angelina, Alyssa, Ava, and Aviana. His
legacy continues to grow with 11 great grandchildren: Abigail, Amyra, Aiden, Adrian, Valiente,
Zadiel, Liam, Ryan, Aaron, Emilia, and Jaxon.
Domingo prioritized his family by ensuring they were never in need. He achieved this by
moving from Mexico to San Antonio, Texas in 1969, where he would set up roots to raise his
children alongside his wife. Domingo’s commitment to his family was parallel only to his hard
working ethic, where he continuously worked as a meat processor, then as a construction
worker. All this was done with a continuous smile on his face to ensure a better life for his
family.
As a sower of goodwill and happiness, Domingo reflected this in his hobbies: farming
vegetables, fruits, and animals. He took pride in how well his produce came out but was most
ecstatic when he shared his crops with family and friends. His field crops and animal shelters
were the backdrops for cherished memories, teaching his grandchildren the patience and joy of
farming.
Domingo was predeceased by his parents, his siblings: Feliciano Hidalgo, Pedro
Hidalgo, Francisco Hidalgo, Jose Hidalgo, and Miguel Hidalgo, and his great grandchild, Josiah
Del Valle. He leaves behind memories with his surviving siblings: Maria Hidalgo, Carlos Hidalgo,
Anita Zamora, Juanita Duran, and Maria Morales. He also leaves behind a legacy of love and
cherished bonds with his children, 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Services to honor Domingo’s life will be held on May 23, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria
del Ángel Treviño, located at 2525 Palo Alto Road, San Antonio, Texas, United States. On May
24, 2024, Domingo will be laid to rest at First Memorial Park Cemetery after a funeral
procession starting at 10:00 a.m. from Funeraria del Ángel Treviño.
His grandsons Joe, Michael, David, Robert, Daniel, and Raul will have the honor of
serving as pallbearers. Speakers at the service will include Pastor Ruben Gonzales, Michael
Tristan, Robert Perez, and Daniel Tristan.
Domingo “Mingo” Hidalgo will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to not only
inspire all that knew him but live on through his family. His life was happily well-lived, full of
purpose, and an abundance of love.
