Betsy was born and grew up on the Southside of San Antonio and Graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1965. Betsy was the driving force behind the Tejano music scene. She was bookkeeper for the Latin Breed in the 70’s and 80’s, ensuring all taxes and SSI were paid so the musicians would have a future income at retirement age. Betsy was a key Player behind the Tejano Music Awards, from counting ballets in the first few years to coordinating the inner workings of future awards shows. She was well respected in the industry, and later went on to work for Cara Records, where her time spent with Bob Grever, grew into a family relationship that has lasted to this day. Bob and Maria Grever’s Children became her own, Christina, Carlo and MIchelle.
Betsy has worked with numerous Tejano bands from Mazz, La Mafia, David Lee Garza, Emilio, the Latin Breed, David Marez, Los Desperados, Tormenta, Humberto (Beto) Ramon, Los Dudes, and many, many more. Ensuring all songwriters received their royalties, to negotiating and fighting for bands with the record companies. Betsy was a guiding light for many new upcoming artists and she was able to give great direction for all who wanted to make it in La Onda. Betsy was a firecracker and Her Time and dedication to Tejano Music is well known and respected.
Betsy was known for a loud raucous laugh and her tough love, she never let you get too big, she was the one that reminded you where you came from, and was not afraid to give her opinion. You always knew where you stood with her and when she showered you with love (in her way) it was the best thing in the world. She loved all her family and worked diligently to keep us all together. She was the life of the party, the one who got things going and we will always remember what a key component she was in all our lives. She will be truly missed.
Memorial services for Betsy will be held on July 26, 2023 at Camero Funeral Home, 20567 HWY 16, Von Ormy Texas 78073 from 10am to 3pm. At her request a party will be held afterwards to celebrate her life.
