Alberto Herrera's Obituary
It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Alberto Herrera of Poteet, TX better known as Big Al aka Blackie.
Born to Santos Herrera and Lola Moreno on 16 March 1948 in Charlotte, TX. He passed away on 8 January 2024 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 75.
Blackie was very proud of his military service as he served in Vietnam and was awarded the esteemed Purple Heart medal. He also retired from the US Postal Service after almost 38 years of dedicated service.
Blackie was a well respected member of the community and a proud member of the Poteet VFW Post 6970. He was a very kind, loving and generous man and will be missed dearly. As many of us know he was also a lifelong diehard Dallas Cowboys fan.
He is survived by four brothers Ray Herrera of Poth, TX, David Herrera of Poteet, TX Ernesto Herrera of West Palm Beach, FL and Jose Herrera of Lubbock, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews to include grandnieces and grandnephews extending all the way from Florida to Texas and even Germany.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Santos Herrera and Lola Guerra, one sister Emma Cortez, and two brothers Santos Herrera Jr. and Ricardo Herrera.
In honor of Alberto Herrera a public viewing will be held on 18 January 2024 from 3-8pm with the Rosary beginning at 6pm at Camaro Funeral Home located at 20567 TX-16, VON ORMY, TX 78073.
Alberto will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on 19 January 2024 at 9:30am. Everyone is to meet at the cemetery located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. 78209
